against the sun

two birds

soar

black wingtips

tilting

to reveal white backs

coasting

on warm air currents

I admire

envy

how

they surrender

to the wind

movements

in the moment

at ease

I let my heart

drift up

to join them

travelers

disappearing

into the bright

blue

baking

in rising heat

exhaling

grassy warm notes

of summer

and memories

Itching in a friend's hayloft

Chewing an end

of green sunshine

Tentatively patting

the glistening coat

of a patient horse

Running

to pick wildflowers

under a perfect

blue bowl

of sky

on trail

tune to technology

I wish

I had magic earbuds

to hear

Trees sway

each leaf

twirling

a pirouette

flirting up

pale green

underneath

A change

is coming

on the wind

of anxiety

racing my unconscious

to fear-fevered

wakefulness

Aware

but unconvinced

my demon dreams

are only

dreams

the wonderful

windedness

The body

at rest

after motion

heart beat slowing

to peace

Silence

rare

impossible?

Over my shoulder

traffic hums

ticks

roars

the call

of a red-winged blackbird

pierces

trilling
