Invasive

We scatter
debris
behind us
empty
energy drink
containers
plastic bags
cigarette butts
a rainbow
of fast food
wrappers:
the leavings
of our out-paced
obliviously scheduled
lives
In our wake
nature
slyly
reasserts
herself
grass grows
in every crevice
wind, rust
and time
weather
and wear down
water
seeks
the path
of least resistance:
the one we
never
follow
