Momentary Illumination

For a moment
I felt you at my shoulder
Lady Sun
The world brightened
and a hint of blue
almost broke through
I turned to greet you
and you
slipped away

Winter's Sea

With eyes shut
winter's wind
becomes
winter's ocean
storm-driven
rolling
roaring
scuplting
snow dunes
into frozen
waves

January Garden

Hoarding green
nurturing it
pruning
carefully turning
fretting lest
a single leaf
fade
fall
inevitably
a few
yellow
soft as tissue
in
winter-roughed
fingers

Needful

As afternoon's
clouds
muffle
the blue
and earth rolls
toward
January's
too-early twilight
I recall
with joy
our playful
morning
meeting,
Lady Sun.
The river
exhaled
yesterday's warmth
and your sparkle
refracted
from every
flake
and ice floe.
I lifted my face
and inhaled cold
and your gold
rays
and felt
something
I didn't realize
was missing
return.

Beginning

If light
can be spoken
so too
justice
hope
change
We too
are spoken
into being
to bring
light
justice
hope
change

Treasure

What treasure
lies
at the center
of our
season?
What are we
holding?
What do we need
to let go?

Glorify

Magnificent
militancy
not meek
or mild
Arms ready
to hold
and to fight
Eyes open
to the true
turned-upside-down
world
to come
