Blooms

An explosion
of color
fragrance
and texture
a frozen
firework
suspended
in the hot
blue
of spring
tipping
to summer

Looking up

By chance
I looked up,
lifting my head,
clouded
with concern,
and am reminded
of what is behind
this gray haze
of worry.
Light will burst
from behind,
not unexpected,
but forgotten

Serendipitous Meeting

Blinded
by my self-imposed
schedule,
not running late
but
arriving
perfectly
on time
to meet
your blazing face
Lady Sun

Resuming

Nature
feels no shame
in beginning again
counts no time
lost
but
engages fully
in rebirth
rebuilding
renewal
Only
in the moment
Only
in season

Conversion

Winter's
frozen energy
has transformed
into
Spring's torrent

Ghosts

Grief
the origin
of every ghost story
perhaps
Grief
the image
in the corner of the eye;
the echo
of a voice
in the ear
just your name
or the memory
of a laugh;
the absolute
conviction
that returning to
a certain place--
a grave
a hushed church
an expanse of rippling grass
dotted with wildflowers
or the banks
of a spring-swollen river--
will return you
to your lost loved one
or your loved one
will return
to you

Waiting

Winter’s
bitter return
strands us
enveloped in cloud
waiting
blinded
groping
for faith
buried
somewhere
under a fresh layer
of ice
and snow.
