Reunion

 

Dazzled

by light

by color

by the height

of the sky

as if

a gray door

opened

and I stepped

into

blinding

sunlight

My eyes

my heart

feel tender

like

a tiny leaf

unfurling

Land[e]scape

 

Beyond

the created

landscape

of circles

and lines

the rough

shorn down

in razor straight

stubble

creation's

land

escapes

collapsing

into a clutter

of fallen branches

wet leaves

creeping

into perfect

corners

blurring

boundaries

erasing

our footprints

the moment

we lay them

down

The only story

 

When I was

a little girl

every story

was new

not only

because I hadn't

heard it

but because

my story

was unwritten

Slowly

my story

has been written

between the lines

of everystory

until

it is one story

and that story

is yesterday

today

and

tomorrow

Glimpse

 

Sun spotlights

pale shadowside

of fallen leaves

like

the pearly

interior

of an oyster

or

a sparkling flash

of quartz

revealed 

by a passing wave

Fall's

forgotten

treasure

waiting

to be buried

in snow

Wish

 

If every cloud

was a wish

this afternoon

would never end

No more petals

would fall

Leaves

would flutter

forever

poised to change

touched

with gold

and crimson

still green

Before

leaves turn

Autumn

casts

its fruit

Oaks drop

their acorns

some losing

their fringed caps

Green drupes

of hickory

and walnut

roll in grass

their moist husks

a puzzle box

for busy squirrels

Seeds helicopter

in the breeze

and crunch

between my shoes

And the air

smells

like

Fall

Buzz

 

Cicadas

high

in the trees

project

their late summer

song

Familiar

yet

almost

alien

Relief

 

Afternoon breeze

carries

smoke

and

maybe

a hint of rain

of autumn

even

of cold

to come

Stores

 

Morning light

and the dawn conversations

of birds

Summer's colors

have muted

to green

and gold

sumac red

and white

milkweed puff

Squirrels

hoard black walnuts

leaving behind

a litter of green husk

Chipmunks

scold from

the tangled canes

of wild raspberry

My stores

are rays of light

and wildflowers

perfume

of high summer

and

approaching

autumn

Begin/Again

 

But

what if

there is no

beginning

because

there is no

end

My season

dormant

has circled 

back

to birth

Circle

 

Winter/grief

will return

but

green/resurrection

will

follow

Wind blows

cold

over lingering

drifts

but the snowdrops

are waiting

when I come

to visit

and

the green tips

of crocuses

soon

to bloom

a rock

a hidden

portal

to open

water
