Reunion
Dazzled
by light
by color
by the height
of the sky
as if
a gray door
opened
and I stepped
into
blinding
sunlight
My eyes
my heart
feel tender
like
a tiny leaf
unfurling

Land[e]scape
Beyond
the created
landscape
of circles
and lines
the rough
shorn down
in razor straight
stubble
creation's
land
escapes
collapsing
into a clutter
of fallen branches
wet leaves
creeping
into perfect
corners
blurring
boundaries
erasing
our footprints
the moment
we lay them
down

The only story
When I was
a little girl
every story
was new
not only
because I hadn't
heard it
but because
my story
was unwritten
Slowly
my story
has been written
between the lines
of everystory
until
it is one story
and that story
is yesterday
today
and
tomorrow

Glimpse
Sun spotlights
pale shadowside
of fallen leaves
like
the pearly
interior
of an oyster
or
a sparkling flash
of quartz
revealed
by a passing wave
Fall's
forgotten
treasure
waiting
to be buried
in snow

Wish
If every cloud
was a wish
this afternoon
would never end
No more petals
would fall
Leaves
would flutter
forever
poised to change
touched
with gold
and crimson
still green

Fall
Before
leaves turn
Autumn
casts
its fruit
Oaks drop
their acorns
some losing
their fringed caps
Green drupes
of hickory
and walnut
roll in grass
their moist husks
a puzzle box
for busy squirrels
Seeds helicopter
in the breeze
and crunch
between my shoes
And the air
smells
like
Fall

Buzz
Cicadas
high
in the trees
project
their late summer
song
Familiar
yet
almost
alien

Relief
Afternoon breeze
carries
smoke
and
maybe
a hint of rain
of autumn
even
of cold
to come

Stores
Morning light
and the dawn conversations
of birds
Summer's colors
have muted
to green
and gold
sumac red
and white
milkweed puff
Squirrels
hoard black walnuts
leaving behind
a litter of green husk
Chipmunks
scold from
the tangled canes
of wild raspberry
My stores
are rays of light
and wildflowers
perfume
of high summer
and
approaching
autumn

Begin/Again
But
what if
there is no
beginning
because
there is no
end
My season
dormant
has circled
back
to birth

Circle
Winter/grief
will return
but
green/resurrection
will
follow

Good Friday
Wind blows
cold
over lingering
drifts
but the snowdrops
are waiting
when I come
to visit
and
the green tips
of crocuses
soon
to bloom

Whose tracks?
Mink
jumps
spring spine
slides
behind
a rock
and into
a hidden
portal
to open
water

April Fools
Lady Sun
tells Spring
Take my hand
together
we'll take
two steps
back
and one
forward

Awake
Beneath
the whirr
of passing cars
the raindrops
recall
last night's storm
filling
the night
with murmuring
that
at last
broke through
the insulation
of sleep
awake
aware
awaiting

Dance
Birds dance
from tree to tree
flashes of red
under
a jewel-like sky

Lonely
The sky
is lonely
without you
Lady Sun
I gaze
out the window
wishing
for your
return

Wisdom
The birds
gathered
in the trees
foraging
among bare branches
and along
the narrow margins
of open ground
know
because the light
tells them
Spring
is
coming

Blue
These blue skies
heal
winter's
jagged edges

Harbingers
Out the window
a chorus
of robins
trills
Spring
Spring
Spring
from every
bare branch

Unexpected
Lady Sun
ignores
the forecast
sweeping
the clouds aside
and laying out
a moment
of breezy
blue skies

First Signs
Out the window
open ground
and a hint
of green
where the snow ends
Everything
softens
snow
ground
light
hearts

Certainty
Lady Sun
whispers
Take this gift
another day

Partners
Lady Sun
plays no favorites
She dances
with winter trees
today
and frolicking leaves
tomorrow

Hidden Blizzard
East of the storm
Lady Sun
rises
blazing
above
winter's devastation
as persistent
as our human
hubris
that compels
foolhardy
defiance
of the seasons
and our own
frailty
Out the window 9

Loop
Caught
in the between
circling
through days
of warm rain
falling to freeze
gathering into
sleet
unfurling into
snow
then
dissolving
a spinning
dizzying
numbing
never-ending
loop
Out the window 8

Tracks
The tracks
come
tentative
from the shelter
of the tower's
wall
a cautious
circuit
in search
of summer's
leavings
then back
to the safety
of the shadows

Light
Trees hold
the fragile
rose light
of dawn
in frosty arms

Unrecorded
Winter
has no memory
keeps no record
logs no depths
follows no calendar
Winter
knows
only moments
measured
one snowflake
at a time

Incandescent
The snow
and clouds
glow
with the
repressed incandenscence
of the veiled
sun

Mourning/Morning
Somewhere near
a mourning dove
repeats
its three-part
call
that we hear
as mourning
It's morning,
he replies
Out the window 3

Wink
A wink
of blue
a friendly
wave
amid
the white
behind
the clouds
spring hides
waiting
to be found

Waiting Sky
A storm
is coming
lurking
beyond the
still
gray
Is the sky
waiting
or am I?
Waiting out
the next
storm
I could
wait forever
frozen
only to dis
solve
when spring
comes
inevitably
and
like the melt
reflect
green
Out the window 1
