How much
flow
friction
force
until
our stone hearts
are worn
away
and the thirsty
satisfied
How far
How deep
How wild
to escape
all trace
of human
engineering
designing
consuming
destroying
How far
when I can't
even escape
myself
Dreaming
of distant places
at day's end
islands
oceans
meadows
mountains
The wind
seems angry
tearing away
still tender leaves
stripping
the crabapples
of the last
of their blossoms
scattering seeds
to helicopter
wildly
Where
will those seeds
land
and what
will grow?
George Floyd 5/25/2020
If
I were a bird
I'd soar
wings spread
riding
the air's
warm currents
skimming
the curve
of a passing cloud
far away
into
the blue
The flowers
offer
the rain
the same
joy
as the sun
Lifting
bright faces
with equal
adoration
The watercolor
softness
of the clouds
this afternoon
an ever
evolving
mural
in sunlit white
smudged grays
with blue
rivering through
and pooling
The clouds
so threatening
have given way
to a surpise
return
of Lady Sun
Flowers
hold
the rain
Trees
open
arms
leaves
like palms
to receive
Birds
resettle
feathers
so water
reaches skin
and sing
The jewel-like
blush
of an avenue
of blossoms
fills my
cloud-weary eyes
with color
I can choose
to see
gray clouds
or
green leaves
blushing trees
a goldfinch
on the wing
like a flash
of sunshine
its whistling song
an invitation
to smile
Nature's litter
is lovelier
more fragrant
and
more serene
colors muted
edges softening
folding
like
praying hands
Drifting
in a stream
of sky
with Lady Sun
at the helm
The wild within
our rulered lines
ignores
jumps
or parachutes across
our measured
borders
multiplying
abundant
unruly
resilient
free
Not waiting
for sunshine
and blue skies
to bloom
but blooming
because
now
is the time
Lady Sun
sends
warmest wishes
to river
sky
and
sleepy town
arms outstretched
face beaming
I'll wait
for you
on the other side
of the rain
I'm holding you
in this moment
Lady Sun
with
blue sky
feather clouds
spring blossoms
Like
dragonflies
on the wind
the blush
of turning leaves
a snowflake
on my tongue
Only this moment
Only now
Like every
flower
leaf
and stem
my face
lifts
to you
Lady Sun
and my
heart
blooms
with joy
The light
at the edges
of the sky
gives me hope
you will
return,
Lady Sun
You turn
your faces
to find the sun
You are
blooming
indoors
despite
being
crowded
and contained
I wrap
your rays
around me
Lady Sun
to ward off
morning's
lingering
chill
I want
to love you
brooding sky
your shapely
clouds
gray
with blue
undertones
a stern
foil
to the joyful green
of new leaves
The river
whispers
forward
forward
adapt
divert
defuse
No fickle
forecast
No fleeting
frost
Not even
the Polar Vortex
can dim
your springtime splendor
Lady Sun
In
one
single
moment
sky
cloud
river
sun
a kaleidoscope
turning
jewel
over
jewel
infinite
patterns
of beauty
and life
Lady Sun
embraces
clouds
gathers them
in a rosy hug
warms them
encourages them
to blush
to stir
to come
with her
to blue sky
Spring
hunkers down
under the weight
of clouds
To the North
Winter
contemplates
a surprise
return
of frost
The leaves,
oblivious,
keep greening
and the birds
still sing.
No heavy sky
no biting wind
no cool drizzle
can dim
the transparent
green
of new leaves
glowing
as if lit
from deep
within
Maybe
not merely
surviving
but
finding
our wild
amid
the ruins
and
the renewal
the grit
and the green
Beyond
barriers
borders
blocks
blooming
still
The clouds
have left
a message
at dawn
Perhaps evening
will reveal
the key
