Dawn, again

Lady Sun
smudges
the horizon
with a pastel
palette
of fire
and cloud

Dawn

The distance
between
despair
and hope--
is it
no more
than
the seconds
between
dark
and dawn,
the thin line of
light
that grows
in blinks
from night
to day?

In Between

While intellect
and experience
assure
no guarantee
winter is
vanquished
blue skies
and bare ground
tantalize
with promises
of spring
Squirrels engage
in raucous conversation
across the branches
and birds gossip
and call
Ducks in flight
dither
first winging north
then wheeling south again
We are all
balanced
in between
caution
and hope

Sunset

Trees stretch
winter-emaciated
fingers
toward
the golden warmth
of Lady Sun’s
evening farewell.

Ceremonial

A flotilla
of clouds
in festival orange
gathers to greet
Lady Sun’s
arrival
